Makerspace Policies

General rules

The following policies only apply to the Pollak Library Makerspace

  • Reservations are encouraged, but walk-in appointments are available if no prior reservation has been made for the equipment you wish to use.
  • Users must submit a Liability Waiver.
    (Liability forms can be emailed to makerspace@fullerton.edu or physical copies are available to sign in the makerspace office - PLN 212) 
  • Be mindful that the space is for everyone! Others will want to use the equipment as well.
  • Make sure space is clean before you leave.
  • There is no eating and/or drinking permitted in any makerspace room.

Makerspace equipment may not be used to create materials that are:

  • Prohibited by local, state or federal law
  • Used as weapons
  • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or pose a threat to the well-being of others
  • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment
  • In violation of another’s intellectual property rights
  • For sale, profit, or for personal economic gain

Equipment Specific Rules

Glowforge Laser Cutter:

To use the Glowforge Laser Cutter, you need to make a personal Glowforge account. This account gives you access to several pre-made designs and the design platform. If you are a new user, please complete the following steps before coming to the makerspace: 

1) Click here to make an account free of charge. 

2) Email makerspace@fullerton.edu the following message: I am a new Glowforge user. Please add my account to the system. The email I used to make an account is (insert the email address you used to create your Glowforge account)” 

Please complete these steps before you come in to use the equipment. 

The Pollak Library Makerspace has some material available for use (plywood, cardboard, etc.), but availability is on a first-come-first-served basis and while supplies last. We cannot guarantee we will have material available for every project. If you have a specific project in mind please bring your own material. 

Suitable materials:

Plywood, Fabric, Leather, Paper, Plexiglas (acrylic), Delrin (acetal), Mylar, Rubber, Corian, and more

Materials for etching ONLY:

Metal, Glass, Marble, Anodized aluminum, Titanium, Some phones, tablets, and laptops, and more

Cricut Vinyl Cutter:

In order to use the Cricut, you need to create an account and download the design software. You can create an account free of charge by going to cricut.com and clicking on the sign-in button. If you are on a computer, the link should lead you to download the Cricut Design Space software after creating your account. Alternatively, you can download the Cricut app through IOS or Google Play. The software and app are your design spaces where you can choose from free design templates or pay for more sophisticated designs. Please download the software and create an account before coming to the makerspace. 

The Pollak Library Makerspace has some material available for use (vinyl, cardstock, etc.), but availability is on a first-come-first-served basis and while supplies last. We cannot guarantee we will have material available for every project. If you have a specific project in mind please bring your own material. 

Suitable materials: 

Cardstock, Copy Paper, Adhesive Vinyl, Glitter Vinyl, Cotton Fabric, Faux Leather, and more!

Meta Quest VR Headsets:

The makerspace has [2] Meta Quest VR Headsets. These headsets have some preloaded games and educational content. Do not download new content without authorized permission from staff.

Sewing Machines & Brother Serger:

The Pollak Library Makerspace has some material available for use (patterned cotton fabric, thread, muslin, etc.), but availability is on a first-come-first-served basis and while supplies last. We cannot guarantee we will have material available for every project. If you have a specific project in mind please bring your own material. A list of the exact models we have available can be found on the Makerspace Equipment page.

Button Maker:

The button maker makes 44mm buttons and does not require a reservation. The equipment is available on a first-come-first-served basis. 

The Pollak Library Makerspace has button fronts, pin backings, and mylar available for use. Users need to provide their own button design. To assist you in designing your button art before arriving, here is a good template for our equipment.  Template: MS Word, PDF File, Adobe Illustrator

Bookmaking:

The Pollak Library Makerspace has some material available for use (cardstock, bookmaking thread, and more), but availability is on a first-come-first-served basis and while supplies last. We cannot guarantee we will have material available for every project. If you have a specific project in mind please bring your own material.

Podcast Studio:

The podcast studio is equipped with [4] Microphones, [4] Headphones, a RODECaster sound mixer board, and acoustic soundtreating panels. There is also a Macbook in the studio equipped with the software Adobe Audition and Audacity for recording and soundmixing. Users can also plug in their personal laptops to the RODECaster to record directly to their device. Please refrain from recording obscene content or violating other's intellectual property. Please note that there is a 2 hour per day per person limit for reservations.
