Loan Rules

Loan rules determine who may borrow what type of item for how long.

There is a wide variety of items in the Pollak Library's various collections and several categories of library users, so there can also be a lot of variability between loan rules. However, for convenience, loan rules can be described in several broad categories for most transactions.

Please note that beginning on 6/19/2015 a new loan rule went in to effect regarding checking out material. In cooperation with the Academic Senate, the Library has revised its circulation policy, allowing Faculty and Staff to renew their material for an additional year. The renewal dates for most items will be 1 year from the date of renewal for all Faculty and Staff.  The maximum number of items that can be checked out at one time has been reduced from 150 to 100 items for Faculty/Staff/Students.

Students

Graduate, undergraduate, and extension.

  • number of items: 100
  • loan period: 10 weeks
  • renewal: one additional 10-week period prior to an inventory check.

Faculty and Staff

Full-time/permanent instructors, Staff, CSUF emeriti, and visiting scholars.

  • number of items: 100
  • loan period: one 1 year from date of checkout for most items.
  • renewal: one renewal permitted for 1 year from date of renewal.

Patrons of the Library

All membership levels.

  • number of items: 10
  • loan period: 28 days
  • renewal: one additional 28-day period prior to an inventory check.

Special Borrowers

Reciprocal borrowers, CSU alumni association members, OLLI members, etc.

  • number of items: 5
  • loan period: 28 days
  • renewal: one additional 28-day period prior to an inventory check.

Public Borrowers

Members of the general public for in-library use items only.

  • number of items: 5
  • loan period: 3 hours
  • renewal: none.

These rules apply for most of the circulating collection (books and government documents). Other items have more limited loan periods or are non-circulating for most users.
