University Library Volume 3, No. 1

Debora Richey
Reference
Now available for review by the University community, Chadwyck Healey's Literature Online (Lion) is an extensive, integrated collection of literary resources on the World Wide Web. The Internet site includes the text of more than 208,000 poems, 4,000 plays, 290 works of prose fiction and twenty-one versions of the English Bible, as well as dictionaries, reference works and bibliographies in the field of English and American literature. Also included is access to electronic journals, metapages, author pages, discussion groups, and library catalogs.
Users have the option of either searching individual databases-English Poetry, Eighteenth-Century Fiction, Reference Works, the Bible in English, etc.-or using the Master Index to search the entire website. The search engine allows users to search any word or phrase, using Boolean operators, and searches may be further refined by restricting to specific works, authors, genres and periods.
The no cost trial period lasts through Friday, May 16, 1997. The website may be accessed via the University Library's home page (http://wwwlibrary.fullerton.edu ) under "Indexes, Abstracts and Full-text Resources" or directly at http://lion.chadwyck.com/. Access to LiON is through standard Web browsers, such as Netscape. Comments about the site should be directed to Pat Bril, the University Library's Collection Development Officer.
