The Pollak Library
continues to revolutionize access to its resources. This article--also
available in the form of a printable brochure [add link to pdf
file]--quickly walks you through some of the latest new services.
An Expanding
Array of Online Resources
Cut to the chase with the Majors/ Subjects list of library databases
As the number of the Library’s licensed databases has topped 120, users
have become increasingly frustrated trying to locate resources specific to
their research topics. Help has arrived with the development of a
discipline-based listing of electronic resources based on Cal State
Fullerton’s academic departments. To find the departmental database pages, click
FIND ARTICLES & MORE.
Getting the full-text of an article has never been easier
Go directly to a full-text resource — ABI/Inform, Expanded Academic,
Factiva, JSTOR, Newsstand, Project Muse, ScienceDirect, Wiley Interscience—just
some of the more popular sources of full-text journal, magazine and
newspaper articles.
Go to your favorite index or abstracting service (Art Abstracts, BasicBIOSIS, Cinahl, ERIC, etc.)—chances are good that it has been SFX-enabled.
SFX: Linking you to your articles
Look for databases with the SFX symbol to the right of the database name.
Previously these databases would have provided you with citations and
abstracts to articles, but not the article itself. Now, thanks to SXF
technology, voilà— a link takes you directly to one or more full-text
electronic versions of the article you are looking for, provided, of
course, that the library has an electronic version of the article in an
SFX-enabled database.
To find an article using an SFX-enabled database:
- Perform a search in any database that has the red and white SFX symbol.
- Click from the List of Records to the Detailed Record for the article
you want.
- Click on SFX : Check for Full-Text & More.
- The SFX menu displays with one or more links to the full-text of the
article, if available.
Help is Going Live in the Library
Ever sit in your office or at home with a research–related question on
your mind, but don’t feel like making the trek to the library to find out?
Help is as close as the Ask A Librarian button on the Library’s homepage.
