From the University Librarian
At the computer.
Welcome to another semester and another new year. This one promises to be challenging for us all given increased enrollments, shrinking budgets, and everyone’s favorite topic—parking.

In this issue of Library Update you will find considerable information about Pollak Library and its services. I particularly draw your attention to the article on the Library’s new home page. This important vehicle for learning about and gaining access to Library collections and services has been dramatically redesigned. It is the collective belief of the Library staff that we have improved our Web presence and made it easier to use. Ultimately, however, such a verdict must reside with those who use this electronic gateway in pursuit of curricular and research goals. So, if you have feelings—strong or otherwise—about how we have changed, improved, or lessened the utility of our electronic “front door,” let us hear from you. A contact e-mail address is provided at the end of the article.

This issue is full of information presented with the goal of better informing our user community about the Library and how to use it to maximum benefit. Since no two individuals use an academic library in quite the same way, and since our primary clientele changes to some degree every year, Pollak Library is always faced with the challenge of allocating resources—human and material—in ways that bring greatest benefit to the greatest number. Again, I invite your comments concerning both what you like and dislike about your library. After all, it does represent your tax dollars at work.
