Conversations
with Scholars: SPRING SERIES - The Library is gearing up for a second
semester of presentations by CSUF outstanding scholars and the Spring
roster is full of tantalizing topics and dynamic personalities. Pollak
Library is collaborating with the Academic Advisement Center, the Student
Leadership Institute, and the Career Planning & Placement Center to
offer students a unique opportunity to interact with researchers from
across the campus. The “I Declare” program seeks to provide interested
undeclared students with avenues to explore job-career-research
possibilities in the various colleges – and hopefully spark an interest
in a particular but as yet unexplored area.
A major component of the "I Declare" program is the
university-wide lecture series entitled Conversations with Scholars –
which began in the Fall 2001 semester and continues this Spring. The
Library will host these events in Pollak Library North, Room 130.
An outstanding scholar from each of the colleges is selected to present
their original research to students in an approachable format. The idea is
to show students some of the facets of various disciplines – not just
promote a specific major.

Faculty wishing to
promote this stimulating series are encouraged to:
- Mention the
"Conversations with Scholars" events in classes –
especially freshman-level courses (contact Rachael Green #7543 for
flyers).
- Consider taking a
class to one of the presentations – a great opportunity to inquire
about the writing and review process, variety within disciplines,
research tools and experiences, etc.
We hope you will be
able to join us for what promises to be a very interesting (and
approachable) event!
