Library Exhibits
Old-Time News Desk   Newstand
Salute to Orange County Journalism Continues - This exhibit, which provides a trip down the memory lane of Orange County journalism, will remain available to viewers in the Library’s Atrium Gallery through at least March 15, 2001. The exhibit allows visitors to walk through meticulous recreations of a pre-electronic era newsroom and an old-fashioned newsstand, complete with manual typewriters, Teletype machine, and Linotype printer. Major headlines on old newspapers impress the viewer with historic events and natural disasters. Local journalists and organizations contributed photographs and memorabilia to bring to life bygone days as well as the news media that captured them for us. Communications faculty on campus have encouraged their students to view the exhibit and have even incorporated it into class assignments.

The exhibit opened last October with a major reception honoring important figures in Orange County media, both present and past. After that, it was the occasion of a reunion of editors and others involved with the Daily Titan, the CSUF student newspaper, over the years. The special exhibit was put together by the Library’s Director of Exhibits, Veronica Chiang, with the assistance of the Orange County News Media Committee, which included Rick Pullen, Dean of the CSUF College of Communications, and members of the Orange County Press Club.

Coming Attractions

Objets extraordinaires - Veronica Chiang is keeping details of the next exhibit close to the vest, but she has given it the provisional title, “Objets extraordinaires” (extraordinary objects). Scheduled for late March or early April, the exhibit will consist of some objects fashioned by nature and others of human creation, that provoke thought or capture the imagination. Those who know Veronica’s ability to pull rabbits out of hats are anticipating this next venture with keen interest.
