Improvements in Interlibrary Loan and Link Plus Delivery Services ILL and Link+ Delivery
Improvements in Interlibrary Loan and LINK+ Delivery Services- This spring, Interlibrary Loan as well as LINK+ operations are continuing to make improvements in the delivery of materials to faculty and staff requestors. Beginning on January 29, all items are delivered directly to either campus mailboxes or computer desktops. This service is provided on a daily basis and applies to books, articles, and all other materials.

Delivery to department offices- BOOKS AND OTHER BORROWED MATERIALS will be delivered by Library staff to department offices, where faculty and staff may pick them up from their department mail boxes. This service includes books borrowed through the LINK+ system. Faculty and staff will continue to be responsible for returning the materials to the Pollak Library. Returns should be taken to the Circulation Counter (not to book drops). PAPER COPIES (FAXES) OF PERIODICAL ARTICLES will be delivered to department offices in the same manner as books.

Electronic delivery to computer desktops- At present, about 50% of the journal articles we borrow are being sent to us electronically, with that percentage steadily increasing. PERIODICAL ARTICLES RECEIVED ELECTRONICALLY will now be made available to faculty and staff requestors via an individually designated web page; in these cases, an automatic e-mail notification will be sent to the requestor, including a direct “hot” link to the URL on the web where the article may be retrieved for use.

For faculty and staff, these new services improve both the convenience and speed of access to resources not available in the Pollak Library’s collections. We are currently exploring the possibility of extending similar services to students and, while the logistics are considerably more complicated, we hope to introduce improvements in the near future. Of particular concern is delivery of materials to students engaged in distance learning at sites other than the main Fullerton campus.
