Book not on shelf

If you have checked the shelf for a book for which the Library Catalog displays STATUS: CHECK SHELVES and you are unable to find the book, you can request that library staff search for the book.

Submit online search request for materials not on shelf:
Use the online Search Request Form to have the library staff search for the book.

Submit in-person search request for materials not on shelf:
All requests should be submitted to the Circulation Desk. You must provide Circulation with the following information when submitting a request:

  • Name
  • TitanCard number
  • Title of item searching
  • Call number of item searching
  • Location of item searching
  • Date you searched for book

Search process for materials not on shelf:

  1. Patron fills out and submits a missing search request.
  2. Results of the search should be available within 2-days.
  3. If the book is found it will be placed on hold and you will be notified when it is ready for pick-up.
  4. If the book is not found the status of the book will be changed to “missing” and you will need to request it through Interlibrary Loan or LINK+ (if patron is eligible for these services).
  5. It is your responsibility to check back on the Library Catalog to see if the status of the book has changed to 'missing'.
  6. No patron notification is available for Missing Search Request, other than Hold notification.

Borrower claims book has been returned

If you feel you have already returned a book that still shows 'Checked Out' to you in the Library Catalog, then you can request that library staff search for the book.

Search request for patron claim return: All requests should be submitted to the Circulation Desk. You must provide Circulation with the following information when submitting your request:

  • Name
  • TitanCard number
  • Contact information: email and phone number
  • Title of item claim return
  • Call number of item claim return
  • Location of item claim return
  • Date and location you claim to return materials
Search Process for patron claim return:
  1. Patron and Staff fills out and submits a patron claim return.
  2. If item is found patron will be notified and all charges associated to the item being searched will be removed from patron record.
  3. If item is not found after the first search, all books will be searched 8 times to ensure a thorough search of the library.
  4. If the book is not found after the 8th search, patron will be notified and will be responsible for all replacement charges associated with the item.
