Sound recordings in the AV Section include CDs, audiocassettes, and records (vinyl LPs). All types of music are represented (classical, jazz, popular, ethnic) as well as some spoken word recordings (speeches, lectures).
How sound recordings are arranged on the shelves:
Sound recordings are simply shelved as they are acquired, regardless of subject,
and given an accession (inventory) number instead of a subject call number.
How to search for sound recordings:
Go to the Library Catalog.
Limit your search to the AV Section. If looking for music by a certain composer,
type the last name in an author search (example Mozart). You may also search for
composers as a keyword search (this will find them in compilations). If looking
for a specific musical piece, do a title search (example: Phantom of the Opera).
Or you can combine title and author with a keyword search (example: Vivaldi and
concertos and seasons).
