Loan Rules
Loan rules determine who may borrow what type of item for how long.
There is a wide variety of items in the Pollak Library's various collections and several categories of library users, so there can also be a lot of variability between loan rules. However, for convenience, loan rules can be described in several broad categories for most transactions.
Students
Graduate, undergraduate, and extension.
- number of items: 150
- loan period: 10 weeks
- renewal: one additional 10-week period prior to an inventory check.
Faculty, Tenure-Track
Full-time/permanent instructors, CSUF emereti, and visiting scholars.
- number of items: 150
- loan period: one due date (June 15) per year for most items
- renewal: inventory check required prior to renewal.
Faculty, Non-Tenure
Part-time/temporary instructors, teaching associates, and graduate assistants.
- number of items: 150
- loan period: two due dates (January 15 and June 15) per year for most items
- renewal: inventory check required prior to renewal.
Staff
Full-time/permanent employees, university police, and auxiliary services.
- number of items: 150
- loan period: one due date (June 15) per year for most items
- renewal: inventory check required prior to renewal
Patrons of the Library
All membership levels.
- number of items: 10
- loan period: 28 days
- renewal: one additional 28-day period prior to an inventory check.
Special Borrowers
Reciprocal borrowers, CSU alumni association members, OLLI members, etc.
- number of items: 5
- loan period: 28 days
- renewal: one additional 28-day period prior to an inventory check.
Public Borrowers
Members of the general public for in-library use items only.
- number of items: 5
- loan period: 3 hours
- renewal: none.
These rules apply for most of the circulating collection (books and government documents). Other items have more limited loan periods or are non-circulating for most users.
