Interlibrary Loan Borrowing Policy
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) policies/procedures are predicated on the assumption of mutual reciprocity among libraries. This includes strict adherence to the Lending Library's use guidelines, particularly loan due date.

Submitting an ILL Request
How to Submit a Request
Requests must be submitted electronically. Electronic requests are submitted via ILLiad. If you need further assistance, contact the Reference Desk, located on the first floor of Library North.
Presently there are no restrictions on the overall number of requests that a user can submit. However, users are limited in regard to the number of "active" requests that they may have at one time. An "active" request is any request that has a status of: Request sent, Customer notified via e-mail, Checked out to customer, In transit, and/or Delivered to web. Active limits are as follows:
- Faculty - 20 active requests
- Staff - 15 active requests
- Graduate - 15 active requests
- Undergrad - 10 active requests
Please contact the Interlibrary Loan office if you need to request an increase in your pre-set active limit.
Pollak Library assesses no charges for ILL borrowing privileges provided that the lending library assesses charges under $30. Requestors are notified in advance when payment exceeding $30 is required by the lending library. ILL places the order following receipt of prepayment by the patron.
Loans may be picked up at the Circulation Desk upon e-mail notification. Articles are delivered electronically via the requestor's ILLiad account. E-mail notification is provided when the article is available.
Interlibrary Loan does allow renewals if permitted by the lending library. Renewal requests may be submitted via your ILLiad account. Renewal requests must be made before the due date. Renewals made on the due date and after will not be permitted. If a book is needed longer than the time permitted by the lending library, please submit another request for the same item and ILL will try to obtain a second copy from another lending library.
Overdue notices are e-mailed weekly. After the third overdue notice the requestor's ILLiad account is blocked and a hold is place on the requestor's Library and University records. The patron is responsible for payment of any fines/fees assessed by the lending library as a result of returning the material late.
Fines for Overdue ILL Materials
A fine of $25.00 will be placed on the patron's library circulation record for each "far overdue" Interlibrary Loan item. The term "far overdue" is defined as when an item is kept past the allowed loan period by 3-4 weeks. This fine applies to the entire campus community.
- Loaned ILL materials are not intended for long-term use.
- ILL is not a substitute for purchasing a textbook.
- The Requestor must pay for the replacement of a lost book.
- Replacement charges are assessed by the lending library and typically range anywhere from $65.00 to over $200.00 depending on the material.
