Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
Q: The video doesn’t play. I
just get a blank screen in the pop-up video
window, or I get a screen that looks
like this:
A: You do not have a video player installed on your computer. You
need to download one. You
can download any of the following for free:
QuickTime: http://www.quicktime.com/
§
click “Download” at the top of the page
§
follow the instructions at the bottom of
the page for “Download the free
player”
RealPlayer: http://www.realplayer.com/
§
click “Download: RealPlayer” at the top of the page
§
click “RealPlayer 8” basic
§
follow the download instructions
MediaPlayer:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/download/default.asp
§
The page is pre-set to download for Windows 98 or higher;
follow the download instructions
§
If you only have Windows 95, use the pull-down menu and
choose
“MediaPlayer 6.4 for Windows 95”; then follow the
download
instructions. This version will not
play the video in
optimal
condition; it will be somewhat choppy, like a slide show.
Q: The video doesn’t play, and all I see is an image of
Windows Media
(something
like this):
A: This will occur if
you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser
and you do not have a
video player installed on your computer. Microsoft
is trying to recommend
MediaPlayer to you. You need to
download either
it or another player. Follow the suggestions in the answer above.
Q: The video appears choppy, or pauses intermittently. Why?
A: A few things could
be wrong here:
§
You may have chosen the wrong connection. If you chose
“On-campus or DSL/Cable” but
you only have a 56K modem,
your modem cannot handle the large
video file. Change the
connection back to 56K modem
§
You may be playing the video with an older version
player. The
Library
Video Tour was created to run best with QuickTime 5,
RealPlayer
8, or MediaPlayer 7.
§
If you are using an older computer with less than a 56K
modem,
less than a Pentium-level
processor, or less than 16Meg of
RAM memory, this will affect the
smooth delivery of the video
Q: The video and audio are out of sync.
A: Dragging your
player’s slide bar (the control just below the video) back to
the beginning and letting the video restart will correct
this.
