Ongoing Activities

A Book Discussion Group, informal and wide-ranging, discusses current and classic works chosen by the participants. It meets the fourth Thursday of each month from September through May at 3pm - usually in the Pollak Library Conference Room, Library South 260C. For information, contact Herb Rutemiller, at hrutemiller@fullerton.edu.

The ongoing book sale of the Patrons and Emeriti is located in Pollak Library South 199, across from the circulation desk. About 5,000 used books on all subjects, periodicals, and recordings are sold at very low prices. (For details see Book Sale Center section.)

The Patrons are partnering with Pollak Library to bring the maps in the Roy V. Boswell Collection for the History of Cartography online. This ongoing effort will allow people to access this rare resource in a new and exciting way from anywhere in the world via the web. For a preview of this effort visit Digitized maps from the Library's Boswell Collection.

The Annual Meeting

The Patrons Annual Meeting is held in Pollak Library, Room 130, each year in late May or early June to review the year's achievements and elect officers for the next year. It features a lecture on a topic of interest to the Patrons or celebrates an event of importance to the Library or the community.

Admission is free, and guests are welcome.

Free on-campus parking.

Student Book Collection Contest

In Fall 2007, the Patrons initiated an annual Student Book Collection Contest. Entry is open to any undergraduate CSUF student enrolled with a minimum of six units. The collection can be on any subject, but it must be based on a unifying principle or theme. In addition, the collection should consist of at least 25 items. Of these, up to 10% can be non-book items, such as pamphlets, periodicals, maps, manuscripts, photographs, etc. Each application is to be accompanied by an essay describing the collection and its importance to the student as well as a bibliographic listing.

Winners receive cash prizes of $500 for first place, $200 second place and $100 third place as well as a one-year membership in the Patrons of the Library. They may be invited to display items from their collection in a prominent area of the library.
