Reference Services General Guidelines
Introduction: The Reference Services Program at Pollak Library makes available to all members of the CSUF community, and to a lesser extent all patrons, the research and subject expertise of public service librarians, subject specialists, and archivists.
Mission: The primary purpose of Reference Services is to guide students, faculty, staff, and researchers, at the point of need, to resources that accelerate the process of identifying and retrieving information for research, study, and personal use. Specifically, we will assist patrons to:
Online Research Guides When reference services are not available, we suggest you go the Subject/Major guides and select the guide most relevant to your topic. Subject/Major guides include librarian-recommended databases and other resources. Also available are Special Topic Guides.
Whom we Serve The full range of reference services is available to members of the CSUF community. Services to non-affiliated patrons may be limited. Reference staff will respond to all questions pertaining specifically to Pollak Library's collection or policies and CSUF history.
Developing Research Skills Reference services include elements of teaching that empower library patrons to become independent users. Whenever possible, reference staff will take the opportunity to help CSUF students and faculty refine their inquires, understand the available tools for answering questions, and select appropriate resources.
