Recall Policy

Recalls can be requested ONLY by CSUF affiliates:
  • CSUF Graduate and Undergraduate Students
  • CSUF Extended Education
  • CSUF Staff
  • CSUF Tenure Track and Non-Tenure Track Faculty
  • CSUF Graduate Assistants and Teaching Assistants

Recalling an item: When a hold is placed on an item that is currently checked out, the Holds Coordinator in Circulation Services generates a recall notice. Borrowers may keep checked out items for ten days from the original check-out date before a recall is placed with a new due date. The new due date is ten days from the day the recall was placed. Please note: If the item is due in less than ten days from the date of the hold request, there will be no recall generated. Once the item is returned, it will be kept on the Hold Shelf in Circulation Services for ten days, as are all other recalled items.

Fines: Borrowers are responsible for any charges that are accrued. Since there are no renewals on recalled item(s), borrowers must return recalled item(s) by the new due date. Failure to do so will result in overdue charges for the items checked out.

Checked-out materials are subject to recall after 10 days. Patrons will be notified of recalls and revised due dates by e-mail. Failure to return recalled items promptly may result in the assessment of fines, the suspension of library privileges, and/or the placement of academic holds.

Due to reduced funding that has also required limitations on interlibrary-loan services, the Library must actively enforce penalties for overdue recalled items. This is an unfortunate but necessary step in times of scarce resources and high needs. Traditional grace periods and faculty/staff courtesies will not apply in such instances.
